What Mountain Hare Studios offers

cosy stove

Pottery, Ceramic, and Art Workshops by Mountain Hare Studios offer a fantastic opportunity to come and learn fascinating new skills in peaceful and beautiful mountain surroundings.

Our Studios offer a wide range of courses in pottery, ceramic, painting, drawing, soap-making, candle-making, mosaic, and more. Creative, affordable, and lots of fun!

Our pottery workshops are suitable for complete beginners and are great fun for everyone. We've scheduled workshops for individuals, couples, and friends to join. And we also provide workshops for private groups at other times.

Mountain Hare Studios offers high-quality year-round weekly classes for adults in pottery, drawing, and painting. We also offer weekend classes, term-time classes, one-day workshops, and summer schools. Our small class sizes ensure individual attention, and the atmosphere is friendly, encouraging, and relaxed.

All our classes are taught by a professional artist who is registered with the Craft Council of Ireland. Read more about the Artist in Residence.

Refreshments are provided, and all materials are included.

Accommodation can be arranged at a nearby B&B upon request, for weekend and summer school workshops.

Mountain Hare Studios venue

The Mountain Hare property is set on five acres of gardens, together with some established and some young woodland, all against the backdrop of outstanding mountain views. The holding is located on the main road to the Vee, between Cahir and Lismore, both of which are popular destinations with lots to see and do.

Part of the gardens

When we first came to the property, there were traditional farm buildings on the land but they were derelict.

Before

Take these cottages, for example. They were in quite a bad way.

After

So we re-roofed and renovated them, using traditional materials and techniques. Now they house one of the art studios and our own pottery kiln.

Our 2015 Open Day had exhibits of sculpture, an open-air gallery of paintings, studio tours, pottery demonstrations, and live music. There were games and face painting for the kids. Tea, coffee and cakes were served on the lawn. And there was lovely sunshine!

How Mountain Hare Studios got its name

pottery detail showing a mountain hare

Mountain Hare Studios got its name from the poem Memory
by the Sligo writer W.B. Yeats:

One had a lovely face,
And two or three had charm,
But charm and face were in vain
Because the mountain grass
Cannot but keep the form
Where the mountain hare has lain.
